Case Studies

Idexx Laboratories, Wetherby

Idexx is a world-wide leader in innovative products and services for veterinary, food and water applications. Their laboratory in Wetherby provides a testing service for veterinary practices. The building also houses laboratories and offices from a number of smaller buildings onto one site.

The laboratories contain fume cupboards, ventilated benches and ventilated cabinets and have very high extract rates. Working closely with main contractor Interior Design Concepts, we designed and installed a system to provide heating, cooling, supply ventilation and extract systems.

For heating and cooling we selected a Mitsubishi VRF system with independent heating and cooling to each office and laboratory. Fresh air ventilation and make-up ventilation is provided by an air-handling unit located in a plant room. A number of independent extract fans provide extract from the fume cupboards and benches. A Trend Building management system enables the system to be fully controlled.

This building was a particular challenge because of the large variations in heat loads in the rooms, and the differing ventilation requirements of the building’s different parts. We had to take particular care to ensure air pressures were correctly maintained in the laboratories and between laboratories and offices.

We were so pleased with their technical ability to meet our special requirements and customer service focus we again reached out to them to support the relocation of our manufacturing operations in Newmarket. They again delivered the project on schedule and met all our expectations.
